Abbey: Card security needs to be 'hassle-free'

Abbey has found that when it comes to card security, most consumers just want a hassle-free life.

It surveyed 1,000 people and discovered that less than one in three want their bank to offer them a security device to protect online transfers, while only 30.5 per cent wanted more security questions.

Instead, it found that people would like better monitoring of transactions by their bank over anything else.

The under-25s were the most likely to be concerned about security, while almost half of those questioned by the bank admitted the issue of internet fraud influenced the card they used when they made transactions online.

Abbey says that in addition to security passwords, it regularly monitors accounts and looks out for suspect transactions, immediately contacting a customer's mobile if they think something is suspicious.

Neil Wilson, director of financial crime at Abbey, commented: "Finding customer-friendly ways to protect people and their accounts is key."

Last week Nationwide urged consumers to ensure they are not paying unnecessary charges on their debit or credit card transaction when they are abroad.
