Sainsbury's Car Insurance welcomes tiredness campaign

Sainsbury's Car Insurance has given its support to a new government campaign aimed at raising motorists' awareness of the risks of driving while tired.

Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager, said that the firm is "delighted" to see this important issue being addressed.

She remarked that "it can be tempting" for drivers going long distances to "push on through the tiredness", but advised: "Taking at least the recommended break of 15 minutes every two hours could be the difference between having an accident or arriving safely."

A study commissioned by Sainsbury's Car Insurance has revealed that 34 per cent of motorists say they drive while tired in any given month.

The same research found that 68 per cent of respondents admitted taking part in some type of dangerous activity while driving.

Recently, the Association of British Insurers called for a minimum one-year learning period for new drivers, to help cut road accidents.
