Confused.com finds Brits drive a lot

Over their lifetimes, Britons will drive an average of more than 507,000 miles, a new study by Confused.com suggests.

Confused.com polled 2,000 drivers and found that most of the miles - an average of 66 per week - are clocked up during the commute to work.

However, driving to the supermarket twice per week adds 473 miles per year to the tally.

Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, said that the sheer number of miles driven over a lifetime is "amazing", adding that the findings reveal "how integral cars have become in our day-to-day lives".

She added that those who put more mileage in typically have lower premiums, saying: "Those clocking up over 25,000 miles a year will save around £80 on their insurance premium compared to those driving only 12,000 per year."

Recent research from Confused.com found that men are more likely than women to get caught breaking the law while behind the wheel.
