Post Office Insurance: Go long haul for a bargain holiday

Eurozone countries like France and Spain has traditionally been holiday hotspots for Brits, but the Post Office has suggested that with the value of the pound plummeting, holidaymakers could make their money go further on faraway shores.

Thailand, South Africa and Egypt topped the insurer's Holiday Cost Barometer as the three cheapest destinations.

With prices for ten different holiday commodities, including drinks and meals, at less that a third of the cost as Australia and half the price of shopping in the eurozone, Thailand stood out as offering great value for money.

In addition, the United States has now overtaken the eurozone resorts to become the seventh-cheapest of the 16 destinations surveyed.

For those still hoping to head somewhere closer to home this summer, Spain was found to be the cheapest place to holiday in the eurozone.

Helen Warburton, Post Office head of travel, said: "Holidaymakers planning trips further afield this year will get excellent value for money by travelling to long haul destinations".

In other news, the Post Office recently launched a new online management tool for its child trust fund customers.
