Abbey instant access savings account introduced

Abbey has launched an instant access savings account, paying a rate of 6.5 per cent gross on balances over £1,000.

That includes a bonus of one per cent for the first twelve months, after which the rate will revert to 5.5 per cent.

Customers wanting to open the account can sign up online and have the option of managing their money by telephone or in branch.

Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "This is an exceptional rate for a telephone access account."

"Now customers who like to manage their accounts by telephone or in-branch can benefit from rates normally only seen on online accounts," she added.

Yesterday the bank launched a new Super Saver account, which is only available to customers depositing an equal amount or more into one of the bank's investment products.
