Barclays: Emerging markets favourite with investors

Buyers of protected investments are looking to emerging markets more than any other area, according to research from Barclays Wealth.

In a survey of 742 customers, it found that with 17.3 per cent of the vote emerging markets were the most popular investment sector, beating established areas of Europe, UK equities and property.

Colin Dickie, director of Barclays Wealth, said these results suggest "investors want exposure to the high returns emerging markets has the potential to deliver but remain wary of the area's volatility and diversity".

He added that its Emerging Markets Optimiser investment is designed to "auto-control risk", in order to give customers a "smoothed return" as well as peace of mind as they know their investment will be returned if the account is held to maturity.

F&C investments recently said that emerging markets are a bigger contributor to global economic growth than the United States.
