Alliance & Leicester current account offer extended

Alliance & Leicester has announced that it is extending the 8.5 per cent AER credit interest offer on both its Premier Direct and Premier 50 current accounts for another three months.

The rate is guaranteed for the first twelve months of the account and the offer also included a zero per cent overdraft facility for the same period.

Alliance & Leicester suggests that customers may be able to earn significantly more credit interest by switching to them, but notes that eight out of ten current account holders have not changed providers in the last five years.

Emma Walkley, current account manager at the bank, said: "Switching to Premier Direct or Premier 50 not only gives customers 8.5 per cent credit interest on their balances, but also offers a free agreed overdraft for the first 12 months."

Last week Alliance & Leicester International launched a new eSaver offshore flexible income account, offering a rate of 6.35 per cent AER on balances over £25,000.
