Alliance & Leicester savings rates decreased

Following the Bank of England's decision to cut interest rates by 0.25 per cent earlier this month, Alliance & Leicester is reducing the rates on the majority of its savings accounts by the same amount.

Only its eSaver, Premium Regular Saver, Premier Isa and Premier Isa 2 accounts will not have their rates changed.

In addition, the bank's Direct Saver account will have its rate cut by 0.23 per cent, rather than 0.25 per cent.

All changes will take effect from Friday May 2nd.

Abbey made a similar move earlier today, decreasing rates by a quarter point on all savings accounts except the Instant Access Saver, ESaver Direct, 50 Plus Saver, and Super 50 Plus.

Alliance & Leicester also announced this morning that it is extending the 8.5 per cent AER credit interest offer on both its Premier Direct and Premier 50 current accounts for another three months.
