Direct Line home insurance urges tenants to consider security

Direct Line has urged tenants to take out contents insurance and liaise with their landlords to ensure adequate security measures are in place.

Andrew Lowe, head of Direct Line home insurance, noted that many landlords consider security measures to be a "wise investment in their property", particularly as it can reduce the insurance premiums they pay.

"If you are renting, you should ensure you have contents insurance which covers the full value of your belongings. Contents insurance is often a lot cheaper than you expect," he added.

However, he did warn that those living in areas with higher rates of burglaries are likely to have to pay higher premiums.

According to recent research from Endsleigh, Nottingham, London and Bristol and the riskiest cities for household theft in the UK, while Guildford, Dundee and Norwich are the safest.
