Essex was found to be the most popular area for Ford ownership, which some areas having double the national average.
Meanwhile, Vauxhall is the most popular car brand in Scotland and German cars Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen and Audi are the favourites in London.
Londoners where also the least likely to go for a French model, in contrast to the Welsh, who favour a Gallic vehicle above all others.
Birmingham drivers were found to be the most loyal to British brands, perhaps because of the city's car-making heritage.
A spokesperson for Tesco, Paul Baxter, said: "Whatever car you drive and wherever you live, you need to insure your car against theft and damage."
Last month Tesco suggested that the government should incentivise people to choose green motors, rather than punishing them for not doing so.
