Nationwide issues money guide to teenagers

Nationwide has issued over 5,000 copies of its The Teenager's Guide to Money to secondary schools and colleges across the UK.

Research from the building society revealed that many young people are not prepared for the financial challenges they will face as they reach adulthood - two thirds of teenagers surveyed admitted to not having a good understanding of finance.

It believes that it is important for schools to ensure their pupils learn more about finance and money management before they open their first bank account or head off to university.

Maxine Taylor, corporate affairs director at Nationwide, said: "The Government has been working hard to provide every young person in the UK with a solid financial education. However, many teenagers will unfortunately miss the opportunity to be taught this in their schools."

In other news from Nationwide, the building society recently announced a new mortgage offer for first-time buyers singing up to its three-year fixed and tracker products.
