Abbey bonds launched

Abbey has launched a new trio of bonds - a fixed-rate, 50-plus and children's savings bond.

The fixed-rate bond is available for one, two or three years. For customers signing up to the two or three-year accounts, rates stand at 5.15 per cent per annum gross AER and 4.75 per cent respectively.

For those opting for a one-year bond term, the rate offered is 5.6 per cent for customers saving between £1 and £149,999 and 5.7 per cent for those saving £50,000 plus.

Abbey's 50-plus bond is available for people aged 50 and over who are looking to get a regular income for their savings. It has a fixed term of three years and interest guaranteed at 4.7 per cent gross per annum.

The bank's children's saving bond is open to savers aged under 18 an offers a fixed-rate of 4.8 per cent gross per annum AER for four years.

Last week the Post Office has announced the launch of new growth bonds, which offer a return of up 6.25 per cent.
