Nationwide mortgage rates reduced

Nationwide has cut the price of its two and five-year fixed rate mortgages, effective from May 16th 2008.

For borrowers looking for a mortgage for house purchase, the building society's two-year fixed-rate product is now available from 5.95 per cent with a £599 fee.

Its two-year fixed-rate deal with no fee now had a rate of 6.35 per cent, while its five-year fixed rate product is available from 5.85 per cent with a £599 fee.

For those remortgaging, the two-year fixed-rate deal offers 6.15 per cent for a £599 fee, while the two-year no-fee fixed-rate has a rate of 6.55 per cent.

Meanwhile, the five-year fixed-rate with a £599 fee is available from 5.95 per cent for customers remortgaging.

In addition, Nationwide borrowers changing mortgages are eligible for a special offer five-year fixed-rate of 5.95 per cent with no fee.

Yesterday John Charcol reported that a record 78 per cent of the mortgages it sold were fixed-rate products in April, up from 64 per cent the previous month.
