Poland's capital has been tipped the best value for money for holidaymakers seeking culture abroad in a new report.

Post Office Travel Services investigated arts breaks in ten of Europe and North America's cultural capitals, lauding Warsaw for proving 25 per cent cheaper than a weekend in London - the survey's most expensive find.

The British capital reflected rising costs of living by weighing in at £308 for visits to the Royal Opera House and Buckingham Palace, among other attractions.

Meanwhile, despite less favourable exchange rates than 2007, both Warsaw and second-placed Prague can be enjoyed by budget-conscious Brits for under £105.

Post Office head of travel Helen Warburton says: "While the eurozone has taken a knocking in recent weeks because of the sliding pound, our survey shows that culture lovers can get a great deal in its cities, if they know the ropes."

The report could make interesting reading for cash-strapped British holidaymakers - recent research by American Express Travellers Cheques found more than a third are refusing to let soaring inflation at home stop their summer holiday plans this year.
