Biba: Drivers should shop around for car insurance

The technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Broker's Association (Biba) has said that drivers faced with increased car insurance premiums should shop around for a better deal.

Graeme Trudgill noted that insurance companies have been making a loss on motor cover over the last few years, but suggested that motorists quoted higher premiums should call their broker, who can help them find a better deal.

"Some insurers might be putting up their rates by six per cent but others won't be and there's always a chance that someone else around the corner will have a better deal for you," he stated.

Mr Trudgill's comments follow a recent report from the AA which found that the average car insurance premium has risen by around six per cent in the last year, to £682.
