AA: Bank holiday motorists will feel petrol price rise pinch

The AA has warned motorists taking to the road for a trip this bank holiday weekend that they are likely to feel the pinch of rising fuel prices.

It has calculated that with the average journey likely to be 304 miles, drivers of diesel cars will see a year-on-year increase of 29 per cent on their fuel bill, while unleaded drivers will experience a rise of 17 per cent.

That adds up to a total petrol hike cost to holiday travellers of £110 million.

Meanwhile, the motoring organisation has also warned that the expected 33 per cent increase in traffic tomorrow is likely to result in an average 30 minute delay for most road users.

Andy Taylor, winner of AA patrol of the year in 2008, advised: "Make sure you prepare well before you leave. Remember to check your vehicle's coolant and oil levels, battery, tyre tread and pressures."

Last week, the AA warned drivers that car insurance firms are now charging higher premiums to people caught talking on their mobile phone.
