AA Insurance: Sensible to save money by switching from car to motorbike

AA Insurance has suggested that it makes financial sense to switch from driving a car to a motorbike.

Ian Crowder, public relations manager at the insurer, said the AA had found that people are increasingly downsizing when it comes to their vehicles, partly fuelled by financial concerns and partly by environmental issues.

He also noted that motorbikes are not subject to the London congestion charge, adding: "They're easier to park, they're economical and they do tend to be somewhat cheaper to insure as well."

According to the Post Office's research, 14 per cent of women would consider swapping their car for a motorbike to save money.

Meanwhile, official statistics show that there were approximately 1.22 million licensed motorcycles in the UK in 2006-2007.
