Alliance & Leicester Current Accounts: Rising living costs hit household budgets

As living costs continue to rise, Britons have been adopting a variety of money-saving measures, according to a survey by Alliance & Leicester Current Accounts.

More than half of the 2,213 adults polled said they have already been spurred into action as a result of tighter financial conditions.

Some of the most popular ways of cutting costs reported by respondents included changing utility bill providers (20 per cent), moving to a credit card with a zero per cent rate (12 per cent) and switching current accounts (eight per cent).

Alliance & Leicester current account manager Emma Walkley said that it is more important than ever to look for good financial deals "in the current environment".

"Often making simple changes like switching to a current account provider offering a better interest rate can make any belt-tightening feel a little bit easier," she added.

Recent research from Alliance & Leicester found that 39 per cent of Britons are planning to reduce their level of clothes shopping to save money.
