Direct Line for Business: Apprentice viewers get entrepreneurial ideas

Watching television's The Apprentice is inspiring many Britons to consider starting their own business, according to new research.

A Direct Line for Business poll of nearly 2,000 adults found that 18 per cent were prompted to contemplate striking out on their own after watching the programme, while 12 per cent said they have realised they want to be their own boss.

Some 13 per cent claimed they could compete with - or outperform - the current candidates on the show.

Head of Direct Line for business Kate Syred explained that many people are drawn towards entrepreneurship because it "can be both challenging and exciting".

However, she warned that "it is easy to underestimate what it really takes to run your own business" and advised would-be business owners to make sure they conduct proper research, particularly regarding what type of insurance is needed.

Separate research by Direct Line for Business recently found that the UK's small business owners take an average of 13.3 days off each year, which is less than the statutory minimum.
