House prices down, Land Registry reveals

House price inflation slowed again in April as property prices continue to tumble, Land Registry statistics show.

In England and Wales the average house price now stands at £183,626 after a 0.2 per cent drop in April.

Annual rate of house price inflation also fell for the eighth consecutive month from 3.6 per cent to 2.7 per cent.

In a statement published with the figures, the Land Registry commented: "This latest movement continues to point towards a weakening housing market."

It added the West Midlands was the region recording the biggest monthly price fall with a movement of 1.2 per cent, while London prices are still almost seven per cent higher than 12 months ago.

Earlier this week members of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) reported more stability in the housing market last month, noting the average difference between asking and sales price remained at 4.7 per cent.ADNFCR-323-ID-18617408-ADNFCR
