Direct Line Home Insurance responds to flooding

Direct Line is lending a helping hand to flood victims, sending 100 members of its emergency response team to the areas most affected.

Heavy rain has devastated homes in the West Country this week and the insurance firm promises deploying staff to these properties will speed up the claims process.

As well as offering advice, the team will be authorising repair work and alternative shelter.

A 24-hour emergency helpline has also been set up.

Andrew Lowe, Direct Line's head of home insurance, says: "Our main priority is to help people get back to normal as quickly as possible and with the least amount of inconvenience."

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has reassured victims of flood damage their household and business insurance policies will cover the clean-up and repair work. It advises keeping all receipts and taking photographs of damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
