Tesco survey reveals cost of British clumsiness

It has found that young children cause £136 million worth of damage a year, while drinking is to blame for £95 million worth of spillages and breakages.
Our four-legged friends also have a part to play, with pets creating £87 million worth of damage annually.
However, far out ahead as the main cause of destruction in the home is what Tesco terms "messing around/horseplay", which is the culprit for one-in-four accidents and leaves a total bill of £325 million.
The most common accidents involve damaging carpets, curtains and furniture through spillages, followed by dropping a household ornament and breaking an expensive electrical item.
Paul Baxter, a spokesperson for Tesco, commented: "As the saying goes accidents do happen - and this research suggests many of us suffer financial loses on an annual basis."
Yesterday, Tesco Home Insurance launched three new policies, with varying levels of cover.
