Sainsbury's Credit Cards: Shoppers to spend billions this summer

Sainsbury's Credit Cards suggests that there is speculation that British shoppers will spend billions of pounds this summer.

British consumers will start to tighten their belts during the current economic downturn, but people are still expected to spend an estimated £7.89 billion in the sales, slightly below the amount spent last year.

According to a survey by Sainsbury's Credit Cards, 25.78 million predict that they will spend an average of £305.90 each on summer sale purchases, with three per cent of UK adults expecting to spend more than £800.

The Sainsbury's Finance figures indicate that around 42 per cent of summer sale spending will go on credit cards, with 11 per cent of those making purchases in the summer sales this year planning to put half or more on plastic.

Donald MacLeod, Sainsbury's Finance head of cards, stated: "If you are going to use a credit card in the summer sales, it pays to use one that gives you attractive rewards that are not only easy to collect but also redeem so that you really are earning whilst you spend and getting a little back."

The new credit card on offer from Sainsbury's offers additional Nectar points to customers each time they shop, in addition to a range of other benefits such as zero per cent on the first 12 months on Sainsbury's shopping and zero per cent interest on introductory purchases and balance transfers.ADNFCR-323-ID-18653664-ADNFCR
