Tesco: Brits go green to save money

A new survey conducted by Tescocompare.com has discovered that 47 per cent of Brits are going green to save money as fuel and energy costs soar.

Two thirds of us (66 per cent) make sure we switch appliances off at the mains rather than leave them on standby to save electricity and 76 per cent have fitted energy-saving light bulbs around the home.
But 20 per cent of us claim that doing more to be 'green' is simply too expensive.

These Brits could well be missing out - 47 per cent are wasting the chance to save money and the environment by not washing their clothes at the lower temperature of 30 degrees.

Almost a third (32 per cent) are still heating more water for a bath rather than taking a shower, and 28 per cent clumsily over-fill the kettle when making a cuppa.

The government unveiled plans for a green revolution this week by unveiling a strategy that proposes establishing new powers to force people to improve the energy efficiency of their homes when they renovate them.
