Holidays 'still high on priority list'

The majority of people still intend to take their summer holiday this year, despite gloomy forecasts from economists.

This is according to Francis Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, who said that potential holidaymakers are benefiting from a variety of cheap deals presented by travel portals.

"We know from previous recessions and difficult times that holidays are the last things people are prepared to give up and nowadays, with the huge range of choices when it comes to holidays, people can pick ones that will suit their pocket," she attested.

A recent poll by American Express Travellers Cheques found that 80 per cent of 2,000 respondents were not willing to give up their summer break.

Meanwhile, according to youtravel.com, there has been a sharp increase in the number of bookings for all-inclusive holidays. The site reported that bookings rose by 70 per cent during March and April.
