RIAS offers one third off home contents insurance deal

An offer to get a third off standard home contents insurance premiums has been launched by RIAS, the insurance specialist for the over-50s.

Customers taking out a joint buildings and contents policy are eligible for the deal, which was launched under consideration for rising living and home running costs.

The offer runs from July 1st until September 30th, giving new customers 33.3 per cent off their standard contents premium for the first year of the policy.

It is a discount which also applies to quotes for combined cover given within the period.

Janet Connor, RIAS managing director, said the provider was "consistently providing quality products and services at affordable rates".

Insurers have warned that older people may still suffer financially when buying insurance, even with equality minister Harriet Harman's Equality Bill.

The Guardian predicted that prices would stay higher on travel insurance for older people, though providers would have to do more to justify it and end blanket restrictions.

Customers were also warned by the paper that travel insurance providers specialising for the over 50s were not necessarily the ones with the cheapest deals.
