Home and car insurance comparison site Tescocompare.com has released its latest Green Gauger and reported that some 53 per cent of homeowners were motivated by potential savings when considering an energy efficient home improvement.

A total of 54 per cent cited rising energy and fuel prices as an incentive to make eco-friendly changes in their homes, while 56 per cent admitted that general concerns about the environment also influenced their DIY decisions.

"With mortgage rates on the rise, inflation on the up and utility bills believed to increase by up to 40 per cent by the end of this year, it is not surprising to see that homeowners are taking swift action to take advantage of the money savings to be had through being green," said Paul Baxter, director of commercial and partnerships at the price comparison site.

Tescocompare.com's home insurance comparison feature may be of interest to those considering a green home improvement, as it is important to ensure that a household's policy covers such repairs and renovations.

While home contents insurance protects the belongings kept in and around the house, buildings insurance covers any damage to the home, fixtures or fittings.
