Asda launches life and income insurance

Asda Real Life Cover, created with protection specialist LifeSearch and Fortis, means consumers can take out a single policy and premium for life, critical illness and income insurance.
Customers can make as many claims as they wish, provided there is still money in their fund.
The Life Fund is unaffected by claims on the Living Fund, so the full amount is still received in case of death or terminal illness.
Unemployment cover is also an option under the policy.
Gideon Ingham, head of insurance at Asda, said consumers faced a "£2.3 trillion life and £190 billion per annum insurance protection gap", which Real Life Cover would address.
Financial advice website fool.co.uk recently warned against economising by cancelling life, illness or income insurance.
It said that by not being thus insured, "you risk leaving your family in dire financial straits".
According to fool.co.uk, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) reported that sales of protection plans had dropped 17 per cent in the year's first quarter, compared with the same time in 2007.
