New mortgages from Woolwich and John Charcol

Both Woolwich and independent mortgage experts John Charcol announced new mortgage deals today.

Woolwich has cut tracker rates, introducing new three-year fixes, which it says will help boost the mortgage market.

It is also re-introducing fixed-rate products with loan to value options of up to 90 per cent.

The best rate on a Woolwich Lifetime Tracker is 0.89 per cent above base rate with no fees or early repayment charges.

Andy Gray, head of mortgages at Woolwich, said the two-year fixed-rate market is "hugely volatile" and that the Lifetime Tracker gave the opportunity to change to another rate in future.

John Charcol has launched a 4.99 per cent two-year tracker.

The range of large loan mortgages gives clients the option to trade off the interest rate and the fee, the lender claims.

Spokesperson Ray Boulger said that the deals were available to those wishing to borrow over £500,000 and "particularly good value for those who need over £1 million."
