Zopa: Let us fund your wedding

Couples needing loans for their weddings are being encouraged by Zopa to use its services.

Zopa, which claims to be the "world's first person-to-person online lending exchange" says that its interest rates, averaging 7.4 per cent, are among the lowest available and there is no early repayment penalty.

According to the company, it has given loans worth over £23 million.

This has included funding for 83 weddings, as well as 2000 cars and motorbikes, 1200 home improvements and 13 boats.

Giles Andrews, UK managing director and co-founder of Zopa, said couples planning weddings are attracted by the "flexibility" of a Zopa loan.

The average cost of a wedding is now more than £20,000, according to the Times.

It is £5000 more than five years ago.

Tips offered by couples in the paper to keep wedding costs down included making their own cakes, buying clothes from eBay and charity shops, keeping numbers down and marrying during the week.
