Tescocompare.com issues home damage warning

Price comparison site Tescocompare.com has issued a warning over the damage children can cause in homes.

According to the organisation, despite the fact that young children are responsible for causing £229 million of damage to UK properties each year, 41 per cent of homeowners do not take out insurance to cover such accidents.

The report was compiled by the recently-launched Tescocompare.com home insurance service, which enables consumers to explore which items can be covered by a policy, as well as how much extra they can expect to pay to insure against mishaps in the house.

Commenting on the findings, the firm's Paul Baxter said: "With children at home during the holidays the likelihood for accidents to happen increases - and if you aren't covered for accidental damage to your possessions it isn't too late to add this cover to your policy."

Meanwhile, research recently released by Tesco suggested that home insurance customers may be paying too much for their policies, with 64 per cent of people failing to switch providers despite a rise in premiums being experienced by 44 per cent of homeowners.
