Consumers 'unaware' of garden contents' worth

Many UK consumers are unaware of the worth of the contents of their gardens, it has been claimed.

A study by Defaqto has revealed that garden items such as decking, furniture, outside lighting and barbeques can be expensive and may not be covered by a home's insurance policy.

Items should be adequately insured to avoid having to replace them, the organisation states.

Mike Powell, consultant for general insurance at Defaqto, commented: "Consumers should consider the amount of cover provided by their insurer for contents kept in the garden.

"The cost to replace some of the items kept in the garden for example, following a theft, could run into hundreds of pounds."

In other home insurance news, Confused.com recently published a report that showed one in ten people in the UK have had to make claims on their home insurance due to DIY mishaps.
