Six in ten business owners are first born while 85 per cent have siblings, which the bank said could have developed their leadership and teamwork skills.
The most common traits in a successful entrepreneur were found to be being dependable (43 per cent), considerate and a good listener (22 per cent for both).
Furthermore, 71 per cent come from state schools rather than private education and half describe themselves as middle class with 43 per cent saying they are working class.
Alliance and Leicester said 29 per cent of small businesses fail within three years but 51 per cent of business owners said their approach was attention to detail.
Julie Meyer, chief executive officer of Ariadne Capital, urged people in today's City AM to encourage children to create entrepreneurs.
She said persistence was key and that "early commercial and creative tendencies" should be encouraged.
