Post Office: No sign of travel spending slowdown

There has been no drop in travel money spending in June and July, Post Office Travel Services has said.

Sales of the euro are higher than last year's levels, despite the fact that its value against the pound is rising rapidly.

The euro tourist exchange rate rose cumulatively by 3.2 per cent for June and July against the previous two months in 2007, the Post Office reported.

In addition, there was a year on year growth of 8.1 per cent overall in July.

Helen Warburton, Post Office head of travel, said the figures showed that most holidaymakers were keeping to "summer sun favourites" such as Spain, France and Greece.

The AA recently advised people to look for emergency travel cover and public liability when buying holiday home insurance.

Spokesperson Ian Crowder said that homeowners could buy insurance in the country their property is in, but may miss out on benefits which are standard in most UK policies, such as flood cover.
