'Shop around for car insurance deals'

Shopping around is the best way to find the cheapest deal on car insurance, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has stated.

Malcolm Tarling, a spokesman for the group, stated that motorists can make "some significant savings" by comparing prices - although drivers should steer clear of choosing a policy based on price alone.

He said: "Make sure you actually check the terms and conditions and make sure you are getting like-for-like."

Mr Tarling added that even in times of economic uncertainty, there are many good deals to be found.

Young drivers, he said, may find shopping around particularly helpful, as their car insurance premiums are often higher than those of other motorists.

According to the AA British Insurance Premium Index, young drivers typically purchase fire, theft and third-party insurance and can expect to be quoted an average premium of £884.

It is thought this figure has increased by around £45 since the last premium index was updated in March.ADNFCR-323-ID-18752389-ADNFCR
