Mobile advice from the Mirror

Advice on keeping mobile costs down in the face of rising prices has been given by the Mirror newspaper.

The paper reported that Vodafone increased the costs for pay-monthly and pay-as-you-go tariffs, following in the footsteps of T-Mobile and O2.

David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, told the newspaper that contract customers need to be careful of going over their monthly allocations of minutes, since those on such contracts had the cost of their extra time upped.

He said those who exceed the allowance often should contact their provider and ask about switching to better deals.

The paper suggested 3's Mix & Match 300 tariff for moderate phone users, or pay-as-you-go for light users.

But James Parker of moneysupermarket.com warned that the cheapest deal is not necessarily the best value.

SIM-only options were also suggested.

London Underground passenger may be able to use their phones to pass ticket barriers and make transactions in the future, according to the Guardian.

O2 and Transport for London successfully tried integrating Oyster card technology and a Barclaycard Visa card into a Nokia 6131 handset.
