Nationwide mortgage rates cut

Cuts have been made to Nationwide mortgage rates on fixed-rate and tracker deals.

Selected fixed and tracker rates are being slashed by up to 0.3 per cent.

In addition, a new two-year fixed rate with a £999 fee has been introduced, available from 5.58 per cent.

The five-year fixed-rate and two-year tracker deals with a reservation fee of £1,499 are now to have fees of £1,999.

Matthew Carter, director of mortgages at Nationwide, said that the building society was "committed to offering good value mortgage deals".

Nationwide has also provided advice for homeowners affected by recent floods.

It advised victims to alert their insurers as soon as possible and carry out emergency repair work to prevent further damage.

Insurers should be consulted before arranging more permanent or extensive repairs.

Essentials and valuables should be moved upstairs to limit damage and furniture should be taken away from walls.

Nationwide also reminded people not to forget to make use of their car insurance if necessary.
