Sainsbury's pet insurance discount deal offered

Holders of Sainsbury's pet insurance can now take advantage of a deal offering them three months of free cover and a 15 per cent discount.

Direct debit customers who renew their policies will pay nothing for the first three months and will receive the discount if they buy online.

Neal Devine, Sainsbury's pet insurance manager, said that vets' fees are increasing and so insurance is "more important than ever before".

He warned pet owners of the "false economy" of compromising on insurance in order to save money.

Sainsbury's recently held a round-table discussion on pet insurance in conjunction with Citigate Dewe Rogerson.

At the event, Mark Woodhead of Money Expert called for standardisation of pet insurance policies and for a minimum cover for vet fees to be highlighted.

Philip Anderson, executive director of Citigate Dewe Rogerson, noted that as advances in veterinary medicine are made, cost is likely to increase and cover is therefore even more crucial.
