Esure home insurance: Sports injuries cause personal liability claims

According to esure home insurance, personal liability is one of the most uncommon types of claim made on home insurance policies.
But those that are made tend to be large and very serious.
Research by esure has suggested that sporting venues such as football pitches and golf courses are becoming "spawning grounds" for increasing numbers of personal liability claims.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, said personal liability could be a "lifesaver" for anyone who has a claim made against them.
The insurer also suggested maintaining one's home, controlling pets and keeping to the rules of a sport to help avoid becoming the object of a personal liability claim.
Financial analyst Defaqto has just reiterated the importance of critical illness cover, noting a "lack" of it within the UK.
Ben Heffer, principal consultant for life and protection at Defaqto, said that providers "must be prepared to devote more marketing effort to protection, particularly income protection".
