Fair Investment Company: Britons borrowing more despite credit crunch

The independent online finance portal cited Credit Action figures which found that total unsecured lending amounted to £215 billion in August 2007, a figure which Fairinvestment.co.uk said looks to have increased over the last year.
Credit Action found that average consumer borrowing though credit cards, unsecured personal loans and motor and retail finance stood at an average of £4,524 per UK adult at the end of August last year.
But Fairinvestment.co.uk believes the amount has increased by 30 per cent year-on-year to the end of August 2008.
Earlier this month, Fairinvestment.co.uk research found that 38 per cent of Britons do not have any home insurance.
Its poll also found that men are less likely to buy a home insurance policy than women.
Spokesperson Rachael Stiles said the findings were "quite a surprise" and stressed the importance of having cover, especially considering the problems caused by flooding in recent years.
