Tesco Home Insulation Service launched to cut bills

A new scheme to help households lower their heating bills has been launched by Tesco.

Having completed successful trials over the summer, the new programme is now being rolled out and advertised in leaflets across its stores and on a new website, www.tescoinsulation.com.

The initiative is intended to help people go green while also lowering their energy expenditure.

It takes just a few hours to install the insulation in an average home.

David North, Tesco's community and government director, said the supermarket had wanted to provide a "simple and straightforward service".

The Energy Saving Trust (EST) recently stated that turning the thermostat down by just one degree Celsius could cut heating bills by ten per cent each year.

Spokesperson Paula Owen also said that having the hot water tank thermostat any higher than 60 degrees Celsius would be a waste of money.

She also said that temperatures in main living areas ought to be between 18 and 21 degrees Celsius and should be warmer only if young children or elderly people were present.
