Lloyds TSB to expand mobile banking options

Customers at Lloyds TSB are to have extra possibilities to use their mobile phones for banking.

Website computing.co.uk reports that from mid-October, customers will be able to use their mobile phones to do more in handling their accounts.

This includes transferring funds between Lloyds accounts, receiving mini-statements and being alerted by text for overdraft warnings and high and low balance alerts.

However, they will not be able to use phones for setting up direct debits or making one-off payments.

Holders of premier accounts will not pay extra for the service while other customers will initially receive it for free and then need to pay £2.50 a month.

Ashley Machin, internet director at Lloyds TSB, told the publication that the bank wanted to provide a "pragmatic, intuitive mobile banking experience".

The EU is to vote next year on proposals to limit the costs of using a mobile phone abroad.

According to the BBC, EU telecommunications commissioner Viviane Reding has said self-regulation does not work and customers are being ripped off.

She wants limits set on the costs of texting and making calls from abroad within the EU.
