Finance lessons 'should be on school curriculum'

A call for introducing financial lessons to school curriculums has been made in Scotland.

The Times reports how Fraser Smart, a director of human resources company Buck Consultants, has urged the Scottish government to make the change.

He cited the current volatility in global finance as a reason and also noted the long queues outside Northern Rock as evidence of "a lack of knowledge of the security arrangements in place".

Mr Smart has already written to finance secretary John Swinney to ask him to take action before any UK government proposal is introduced.

However, Mr Swinney has said it is up to the UK government to decide.

In related news, many bankers who believe the current situation makes their jobs unstable are looking to train as teachers, according to a BBC report.

The Training and Development Agency for Schools has reported a 34 per cent year-on-year increase of visitors to its website.

It has been targeting business areas of London for new trainees. ADNFCR-323-ID-18801050-ADNFCR
