Lloyds: Joint accounts better for couples

Couples should take out a joint bank account to make their money work more efficiently, Lloyds TSB has said.
According to a new study by the bank, 72 per cent of couples have a joint bank account, but over a quarter have not.
Of those without one, 39 per cent said they do not trust their partner to spend responsibly or wish to keep their earnings and spending secret.
But 46 per cent say they would get a joint account if there were a better rate of interest on it.
However, of those who have joined forced, 90 per cent say it helps to manage household expenses, while 88 per cent think it is the right thing to do as a couple.
According to debt solutions service Myvesta, a recent study showed that 60 per cent of couples argue over money at least once a month.
The organisation recommended openness and honesty and suggested that one person handle bills while the other communicates what is being paid and needs to be paid.
