TUI Travel: Annual holiday seen as necessity

Most overseas holiday customers view their annual break as a necessity rather than a luxury, it has been stated.
Dermot Blastland, managing director of TUI Travel UK, said that despite the economic downturn, overseas bookings are still strong.
He said the "vast majority" of customers see their main holiday abroad as essential.
"Over half of our customers agree that even if they had to cut back on spending, their main holiday abroad would be the last thing they would give up," he stated.
A recent study by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) found that more than 80 per cent of people intend to go on their foreign holiday this year, even with the credit crunch biting hard.
Some travel commentators have said that as conditions at home become more stressful, more people feel the need for a break.
According to ABTA's poll, 83 per cent of people who recently returned from a holiday overseas plan to take another on within the next year.
