Egg savings offer launched

An introductory offer for an Egg savings product is now available.
The 6.55 per cent per annum rate is available with the Egg Savings Account, including a variable bonus rate of 1.8 per cent gross per annum for the first 12 months from the opening of the account.
After this time, the rate will move to the standard variable rate for the account at the time.
Savers can make a deposit of anything from £1 to £100,000.
Account holders can also make withdrawals without notice or penalty.
Dean Proctor, head of savings and investment at Egg, said that the account offers "a great rate for people's money".
In related news, children in Harrow have been found by Halifax to have the highest balances in savings in the UK.
Their accounts hold on average £2,193, compared to the national figure of £1,049.
Children in Gosport, Hampshire have the lowest average savings with just £673.
