Zurich: Britons not prepared for floods

Nearly half of Britons do not know what cover they have in the case of a flood, according to new research from Zurich.

Of those polled, 44 per cent could not say what their insurance would provide for in a flood and 40 per cent did not know where to get information about flood risk.

Furthermore, 62 per cent believe there is an increased chance of flooding due to climate change.

Zurich is now launching a website to help advise homeowners about floods and how to protect themselves against them.

The website, www.zurich.co.uk/severeweather offers links to weather reports and flood warnings.

Anna Fleming, property claims director at Zurich, said there is an "urgent need for all homes and businesses to prepare for this risk".

Earlier this month, Zurich warned parents against insurance fronting by insuring cars in their own names when their children are the main drivers.

It found that 59 per cent of people do not realise it is an illegal practise.
