Packed lunches 'could cost more'

People trying to save money by bringing home-made lunches to work could be costing themselves more.

Johnny Stern, director of supermarket comparison website mySupermarket.co.uk, said that people may be purchasing more items than usual to have a different lunch every day.

This could lead to increased expenses.

Mr Stern said that people ought to use leftovers or whatever they already have in the house in order to make packed lunches a cheaper way to eat.

He also advised planning meals in advance and noted that his website offers a price-checking service to help find cheaper alternatives and special offers.

According to a recent survey by the Good Food Magazine, 74 per cent of workers take their own lunches to work once a week or more.

Most of them (71 per cent) cited the economic situation as a reason, while only 24 per cent say it is to use up leftovers.
