Driving record affects car insurance

The effect of one's driving record on the cost of car insurance has been outlined in the Crawley Observer.

According to the paper, there is a "large discrepancy" between all the available prices for motorists buying cover, even if the driver has been involved in accidents recently.

Readers were advised to look out for free accident and breakdown cover, deals for driving overseas and no-claims discounts.

Carbon offsetting options were also recommended.

Islamic insurance provider Salaam Insurance has announced car insurance that complies with sharia law, the Guardian reports.

Available to all customers, whether Muslim or not, the policy is based on a principle of risk-sharing, with clients receiving discounts on their renewals if there is money left over.

The money involved also cannot be invested in businesses forbidden by Islam, such as pornography or gambling.

Farrukh Raza said the cover "works in exactly the same way as conventional policies".
