Moneysupermarket.com: Doncaster and Bristol make most theft and burglary insurance claims

Homes in Doncaster and Bristol are the most likely to make claims for theft or burglary on their home insurance policies, new research has found.

The data from comparison website Moneysupermarket.com showed that nearly six per cent of homes in the two places have made such a claim in the last 12 months.

They were followed by Canvey Island, off Essex's south coast, where just over five per cent of policyholders have made claims for the same reason.

Of the 20 top UK areas to suffer from such crimes, seven were in Greater London.

TW8 in Brentford and SE27 in West Norwood were the worst, at 4.76 per cent and 4.55 per cent respectively.

Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at Moneysupermarket.com, said that people in "high-risk" areas may find themselves paying more for insurance and urged insurers to decide on premiums on a case-by-case basis.

Earlier this month, Moneysupermarket.com found that people in certain professions, such as army officers and sales directors, were more likely to speed in their cars than anthropologists and tobacconists.
